After winning critical acclaim for his Ore Kadal (2007), noted director Shyama Prasad is back with his first ‘youth film’ Ritu (Season) with all newcomers in the lead roles. With the film set to release on this Friday in 40 screens in Kerala, a source close to the makers said that Ritu is going to be a trendsetter in Mollywood! The first venture of Mammootty’s distribution company Play House, Ritu follows the lives of three childhood friends: Sarath Varma, Varsha John, and Sunny Pynadath. The trio was almost inseparable as friends and they grew up in the same place where they experienced love, bonding and innocence. In an interview to a newspaper, Shyama Prasad said: “I wanted to make a film about youth, the spaces inhabited by them and their lives. Not a teenage story but one about young professionals finding themselves in a world of bewildering change that questions each and every belief and value of theirs, whether it be ethical, emotional, social, professional or moral.” The film’s focus is on the world of the young techies as they negotiate different spaces and emotions that pull them in conflicting directions. Shyama Prasad chose all new actors:
Nishan, a product of the Film and Television Institute of India; Rima, a former Miss Kerala runner-up and model; and VJ-actor Asif Ali. His supporting cast includes veteran journalist K. Govindankutty and film director M.G. Sasi.
